I made Ancient Signs thinking about the 20×20 shape with carvings and reliefs composed to form a three-dimensional picture. Spontaneous geometries, ancient signs.
The chromatic effects are inspired by the raku technique, which I have practiced for years, the black of smoked clay, the green of copper in oxidation and reduction, the white of the raku earthstone.
Raku is good practiced together, as in a celebratory ritual of the four elements of nature: earth, air, water, fire. And if the company is good it’s even better.
Finding myself working alone for most of the time, I gave up this practice preferring making ceramics in my dimension. I tried to reproduce that raw material aspect of clay that must resist to the fast lowering of the temperature compared to the iridescent effect of copper due to the reduction process.
